Environmental Responsibility Becomes Table Stakes
24/05/2024
As social responsibility becomes an area of focus for New Zealand businesses and consumers, environmental responsibility has transitioned to becoming table stakes. This means that many New Zealand businesses will now not engage with a supplier who is not able to prove that they are meeting their ESG requirements.
For Snell, we have seen our customers, such as Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, recognise the progress of their suppliers on their own sustainability journeys by offering transparency regarding what is required to move through each stage of their assessment system. To learn more, click here.
Of course, this shift is being driven by end users with media headlines, such as:
- 'Hello I'm A Paper Bottle' Turns Out to Have a Plastic Surprise Inside
- Packaging claims under fire for 'greenwashing'
- Consumer NZ warns of 'greenwashing' on our shelves.
As end consumers become increasingly focused on the environmental impacts of the products they consume, the environmental pillar of ESG will remain table stakes for the foreseeable future.
